Version history
Version 1.2.5
- fixed a bug in the Annuity calculation
Version 1.2.4
- fixed a bug in the Periodic Payments and Perpetuity calculation details:
when selecting "none" as the periodic change, details were
calculated using the previously entered value for the "amount"
change
- fixed an issue with gradient values not being saved properly
- removed multiple refreshes while calculating details
Version 1.2.3
- FinKit for Mac OS Classic is freeware now. Since all future development
will be done on Mac OS X, no more new features will be added to the
Classic version
- fixed a bug in the Credit Cards calculation
Version 1.2.2
- added the possibility to choose bi-monthly and bi-weekly as compounding
and payment frequencies
- added links to Support and FinKit web site in the Help Menu
- links within the program and the documentation were updated to the
new address
Version 1.2
- added the Inflation and Taxes calculation that calculates the real
rate of return
- added the Find Rate calculation to calculate the rate for single payments
based on present and future value and for multiple payments based on
present or future value and periodic payments
- added the Savings calculation to calculate the number of periodic
deposits needed to reach a savings goal
- added the Withdrawals calculation to calculate the number of periodic
withdrawals that can be made from an account
Version 1.1
- added the Periodic to Annual Rates calculation that converts a periodic
to nominal and effective annual rates
- added the Lease calculation so that there's no need to combine two
calculations anymore
- added the Credit Cards calculation which lets the user find the number
of payments needed to pay off a debt using either variable or fixed
payments
- amounts are now copied between calculations depending on the type
of value that they represent (periodic payments, present and future
value)
- individual results can be copied just by clicking them as in the OS
X version
- the way percentages are copied is changed to make it easier to paste
them into input fields
- some menu commands were rearranged so that they are now located in
the same menus as in the OS X version
- the layouts of the About window and the Splash window were changed
- a Show / Hide Help String command was added to the Help menu to enable
or disable the display of help strings
- after the 15 days trial period is over the user is reminded to register
at each launch, if FinKit hasn't been registered within 30 days it will
enter a demonstration mode in which some features are disabled
- some minor bugs were fixed
Version 1.0.4
- the range for rates is changed back to go from 0.01 % to 100 % to
prevent rounding errors
- maximum input lenght for rates is set to 11 characters to prevent
rounding errors
- the range for deferment periods is increased to permit calculation
of retirement and education funds
- an issue with remembering input when switching between fixed and
variable interest rates in the Time between dates calculation is fixed
- superfluous spaces and tabs in saved results are removed
- the Help pages have two new chapters: Frequently Asked Questions
and Combining calculations
- variable interest tables can now be saved as text files
- the Add period button is now the default button in the Variable interest
tables window
- the progress bar that appears when there are more than 50 rows in
the details table now increments instead of being displayed as a barber
pole
Version 1.0.3
- the range for the nominal annual rate is now set to go from 0.001
% to 200 %, to permit users to experiment with extreme values. Results
that can't be calculated reliably will be shown as "Too big!".
- the possibility to use continuous compounding is removed from the
Perpetuity calculation, as when details were shown a very annoying alert
would pop up for every row in the details table tellin the user that
continuous compounding isn't implemented yet
- when using the Effective Rates calculation with continuous compounding
the Effective periodic rate now displays a question mark, as the periodic
rate can't be calculated. In the previous version it displayed the value
for 999 compounding periods per year.
- a bug with copying values between calculations and saving values
when quitting has been fixed
- the shortcuts to speed up the editing of tables have been changed
- table names cannot start with a dot anymore as these filenames are
reserved by the system on Mac OS X
- the Help pages were updated and some errors were corrected
Version 1.0.1

for daily compounding
- fixed a bug in the details for the Effective Rates calculation
